The outdoor lighting system at the Portici ENEA Research Center has been completely renovated with the installation of 120 LED streetlighting ADVANCE provided by Fael LUCE to replace older models with mercury vapor lamps. 
The intervention is in line with the EC Regulation no. 347/2010 that has banished, from the 04/13/2015, the mercury vapor lamps and set new and higher standards of efficiency.
The new ADVANCE street lighting have a cut-off emissions, which limits light pollution due to the dispersion of light upwards, and provide a luminous flux of 10% higher than the nominal one of the old plant, which were very degraded due to the strong yellowing of the polycarbonate diffusers and opacification of reflectors. The result was, therefore, an obvious upgrade lighting of roads and internal parking and fenced boundaries, which impact on the effectiveness of video surveillance.
Each streetlight has a total power output of 55W (LED+DRIVER) against the 135W of the old model with a consumption reduction of about 60%. If we consider that the average ignition time is 12h per day, corresponding to an utilization equal to 4380 h/year, the power that will save is about 42,000 kWh/year, with a reduction of CO2 emissions, in the atmosphere of over 13,74 t/year.
The consolidation of the technology and the use of high quality LED streetlight provided by Fael, allows to assess in 20 years the time period in which these lamps are able to fulfill their function admirably.
Fael LUCE ensured a lumen maintenance output from the new street lamps to 80% (70%) higher values of the initial one for times that are beyond 70.000 h (80,000 h) of operation, guaranteeing them from construction defects that may arise for 5 years after the purchase.
The realized project is part of a broader streamlining program of the Research Centre Arcades, spread over several years, which provides for interventions on both buildings on technological systems.
